Sometimes it can be hard to find the right fit.
A gym is moving to Port Colborne after 21 years in Welland to find a better fit.
Janice Arcaro said the gym was first started by Gino Arcaro in their basement. She said the couple live in Port Colborne.
Arcaro said she thinks “the gym industry is changing.”
“We believe that the age of the big gym is gone,” she said. “People are more interested in getting in getting their workout done quick as possible and getting on with their day.”
She said the fitness industry was one of the sectors hardest hit by COVID-19.
To help serve that new market, she said, their new gym is set up for efficiency. Arcaro says she thinks that will help attract a wider demographic.
The new location is at the corner of Steele and Killaly Street West, in the same plaza as Matheson Pharmacy. It will be open to members 24/7.
“Our gym was co-ed. It was multifunctional. We had a hardcore workout area, we had cardio. We have stretching and aerobics; we had everything. It was over 10,000 square feet,” she said.
Lance King is the owner of Supplemax, a supplement store inside of X Fitness.
“We’ve got pre-workout and post-workout proteins, isolates, vegan, keto — everything that people are going to need,” said King, noting he had 20 years of knowledge in the business.
King said a lot of people know the basics when it comes to supplements.
“We are big on educating,” he added.
Arcaro said it would be a big advantage for members to be able to walk steps from the equipment to the be able to speak with King if needed.
“We have a wealth of experience and knowledge in the workout industry and health industry,” she said.
Leeann Arcaro-King offers personal training at the gym as well as group classes.
She said they don’t want people to be intimidated or feel self-conscious, so each membership includes a free training session on the equipment.
The gym is eyeing an April 1 opening.
